Happy Birthday, Mom!

We went to the cemetery today for our yearly tradition.  My mom’s birthday is today and since it falls so close to Mother’s Day every year, we make it a point to visit her grave on the Saturday before Mother’s Day.  The whole family gets together and we all bring a sharpie.  One kid is assigned balloons every year and then we all write letters to my mom on our favorite color.  Since her birthday was actually today, we sang Happy Birthday and then let the balloons go so that they could fly up to heaven and deliver our notes.

It was Hannah’s first time, and we all laughed that her balloon was the slowest, trailing behind the rest of the bunch.  Then it started to veer to the left, and we thought she was going her own way, not following the crowd, not doing what she was supposed to do.  Then we thought that maybe, since she had seen grandma the most recently, that she might be the one going the right way and the rest of us weren’t listening to her little pink cries that we needed to follow her.  He he he.  It is such a fun thing for our family to do together.

After the balloons had floated so high that they couldn’t be seen, we all came back to my house and had juice and cinnamon rolls while we talked and laughed. Happy Birthday, Mom!  I love you!  I miss you!  Thanks for sending Hannah the right way!  Keep watching over us.
