It’s been a week of milestones!

I had my three year anniversary over the weekend, and it was so fun and so odd at the same time. Jon and I agreed that with one year, you’re still so smitten you can’t see straight. With two you can’t believe you’ve been married for SO LONG. But at three, you’re sort of used to each other, comfortable enough to not make it a big deal and still enjoy something spontaneous. Ahh.  How good it is to be comfortable and happy in your marriage.

We went to breakfast at my parent’s house and sat around chatting with family having a good time. Nothing to do with our anniversary…just the regular Saturday ritual. It was great and entertaining and totally normal.

We had most of Jon’s family over to go swimming after lunch, and Hannah spent her first day in the pool. Her chubby little body in her new swimming suit was the cutest thing I’d ever seen. Add the matching sunglasses, and she was outrageous. (Curse Macy’s for being back-ordered and me without a new camera to capture it!) She sat in the floaty that we had bought her and splashed the water trapped with her in her little chair…pretty unconcerned that she was in the big pool and not just in her little tub back home. We lathered her up in spf 50 and kept her in the shade, so she was completely untouched by the sun..not even a single freckle…and the rest of the family thanked us for the dip and went on their way before dinner.

I showered and dressed and packed Hannah up and we drove over to Danielle and Cameron’s house. Danielle had been begging for a ‘sleep-over’ with Hannah for a while, and our anniversary was a perfect excuse to hand our girl over for a night. Danielle gets her sleep-over and we get a romantic night alone to celebrate three years. Danielle was gone when we got there, but Cameron is adorable with Hannah too, so we were fine leaving her with him, and Danielle was so jealous of the extra time with Hannah that she missed. We loaded up their living room with her bassinet, bags, toys, and car seat. They had everything they could possibly need! It was about to be a night that would either cure Danielle of wanting a baby right away, or would nudge her into pregnancy within the month. According to the record the next morning, Hannah had a small freak-out at bedtime, but Danielle made it home, calmed her and put her to sleep. She ate at 11 and slept through till 6. Dani changed her and fed her again and she fell right back to bed.  Nine o’clock rolled around and Hannah sat smiling in her crib…just happy to be awake…so Danielle changed her and played with her for a few minutes until she noticed Hannah eyeing the 6 a.m. bottle. She wondered if Hannah were hungry again, so made her another bottle and was amazed that she fell to sleep AGAIN! Danielle curled up next to her and snoozed a bit herself. Hannah was nearly 40 minutes late coming home, and I’m torn that it wasn’t because she was being so difficult and sad. No…she was fine. I probably missed her a lot more than she missed me, but that grin I got when I was finally able to hold her again was totally worth the time away.

For our anniversary, Jon and I went to a lovely Italian restaurant and ate on the patio under an umbrella. We met up with some friends, Sam and Lindsey, for a perfect chocolate peanut butter shake that Jon and I shared, and then we danced the rest of the evening away at the MAC. It was such fun! We even won a free admission in the drawing, so we get to go back for half price. Sam and Lindsey were troopers and so much fun to watch and teach. Swing dancing is only now getting easier for me, and I’ve been married to the boy for three years. They’ve only been dancing with us twice so far, and they’re already getting some of the basics, so that’s entirely fun. We said goodnight to Sam and Lindsey in the parking lot and headed home to relax and eat the left-overs from our Italian dinner.

We flipped through our wedding album and reminisced about that most amazing day three years ago. There wasn’t even any blushing as we thought back to the honeymoon suite and the gigantic tub we couldn’t quite coordinate in. We went to bed late, but slept in later and then enjoyed Hannah’s homecoming smiles. I had a whole night of undisturbed sleep…so thank you to Hannah, Danielle and Cameron for that anniversary present! It was perfect and just what I wanted!

I’m so grateful for such a wonderful husband and life. We have a great home in a lovely neighborhood that we continue to make improvements on and enjoy. My husband is a sweet, loving, supportive, hard-working, spiritual giant who honors his priesthood and tells me regularly how much he loves me and that he thinks I’m hot. He’s talented, funny, my best friend, and my love. Three years is great…but bring on 300!

I love you, Jon, and I am so glad that I married you…because…as we always quote…it could have been worse!

P.S. Hannah’s perfect behavior did not quell any of Danielle’s desires for a baby.

P.P.S. Sorry Cameron.
