SURPRISE!!!

So, turning 35 wasn’t so bad sitting at work getting my stacks of paperwork down to reasonable levels. I got home after running some errands and Jon said that we would go to dinner with some friends of ours, and I got to pick the restaurant. YAY! I’d been craving Charlie Chow’s or Café Trang for a week. He was all for either restaurant, but said that we needed to go to the grocery store first and pick up the food and supplies that we’d been talking about getting for a couple of weeks now. (Hannah is starting on Rice Cereal…with a spoon and everything!…so we had to get her grown up food.)

We ran to Smith’s and then as we got home I told Jon that I would feed Hannah quickly and then we could go to dinner because I was starving. I asked if he’d grab the bags and I walked up the stairs on my way to feed our girl. I thought it was odd that he was following me up the stairs when I’d JUST asked him to bring in bags…and then I saw the streamers. What the…..?! Those weren’t there a minute ago!  As I reached the landing, a bunch of happy faces crested the couch and shouted out, “SURPRISE!”

Somehow, Jon had thrown together a surprise party for me with an 80’s theme, and our friends snuck in and decorated the house in the time we were at the grocery store.  Sam and Lindsay also brought over Rock Band with 80’s music to play. I hugged everyone and ran to the back to feed Hannah and then I put her into her Jem onsie.  I pegged my jeans, found a big nasty decorative belt to wear over a baggy shirt, I pulled out a pair of ruffled socks and some white high-heels…all in reserve for just such an occasion. Someone had even brought spray hair dye and I was happy to throw a streak of pink at my temple. (Jon said that I looked like Rogue would have if she’d been around in the 80’s. I refrained from being geek enough to remind him that Rogue WAS around in the 80’s and just thanked him for thinking I was hot in pink.)

I didn’t get my Café Trang, but I did find out that I’m a passable drummer for simple 80’s tunes, and I had a great time watching J.D. and Jon both earn 100% for their singing abilities. Who knew J.D. could sing?! All of my friends are even studlier than I knew. Monique dressed in a perfect replica of an 80’s outfit, complete with blue eye-shadow, and she still managed to look amazing. Melissa brought me a Jem birthday cake that was perfect, and I found out that my strait-laced Jake is a monster on guitar. All-in-all, it was a fantastic party and I really enjoyed turning 35 with so many good friends! Thank you all for coming!!! And, thanks, Sam and Lindsey for leaving Rock Band for the weekend…I’m a total drummer hero now!

*Disclaimer – Jon apologizes for anyone that did not get news of the party who would have come. He did not have all the numbers for some of my friends in HIS phone and was never able to steal mine. We also found out this weekend that he sent the text to EVERYONE, but since EVERYONE makes a really long list, his message only made it to about 2/3 of the list before his phone gave up from exhaustion. You were missed but remembered! I hope you partied with us in your hearts. If not…do a little dance now and smile for me! Love you all!
