Hannah is all better. WHEW!

We had a long and tiring weekend dealing with a fevered girl. My sister babysat Hannah on Wednesday, and the fever started then. She was so sad and tired when I went to pick her up, and Lisa had been good enough to already give her some Tylenol. Hannah had gotten a flu shot a few days before and we were also told that she had two more teeth coming in on top (she’s going to look like a little hamster with pincer teeth), so there were several reasons for the illness. I called in sick to work on Thursday because Hannah was just getting worse, and that never makes me feel very good either. I took turns giving her Tylenol, stripping her down and blowing on her forehead when she got too hot and then putting her jammies back on when she was feeling cooler. We pretty much just spent the day sleeping and taking Tylenol.
Unfortunately for Hannah, we were scheduled to do a wedding that night. Hannah was such a tropper to sit through the whole thing and just look up at me with the question in her eyes…”Mommy…why do I feel icky?” She slept on and off through the reception, and we took her temperature as soon as we got home. 103.3. More Tylenol and a blessing from Daddy did quite a bit of good for that night, but she got back up to 101 again on Friday. More stripping and re-dressing as the day progressed. She didn’t like food for most of the weekend either and subsisted on formula when she could stomach anything at all. The good news is that by Saturday she was doing MUCH better. We both slept through the second half of the Utah game up at the stadium with Jon’s family, and then Hannah was pretty much back to normal by that night. At least she stayed hydrated with her water sippy, and was back on foods by Sunday night. YAY!
Sick babies are so sad, but babies who are healthy after being sick are so happy and fun! I think she was more nutty than usual just to make up for her lack of energy during the illness. Yay for cute Hannah!
She was feeling so good by Saturday night that I didn’t have any problem keeping my date with the Musketeers to do dinner and a movie. The riblets at Applebees were lovely, and hanging out with those women is always a hoot! The movie was a little bit disappointing…yes an interesting look at the real life of the Duchess of Devonshire, and the costuming was FANTASTIC!…but the morality of the day and the acceptance of a completely unacceptable situation was totally frustrating. We all agreed that we were not allowed to watch movies like that any more. Whatever happened to the great romantic comedies?! Ah, well. At least it was a fun night out with the girls. Always a good thing.
Apparently, my night out also facilitated some fun for Jon and Hannah. They spent the evening with some friends of ours, Sam and Lindsey. Sam and Lindsey are in the process of adopting a child from Russia, and they both adore their time with Hannah. However, whenever we get together, Hannah is a total momma’s girl, and Lindsey never gets enough holding and play time with our little munchkin. This time, with mommy at the movies, Hannah was totally fine to play and laugh and enjoy the company to the fullest, and everyone enjoyed themselves. Yes, I was still missed, which was nice to hear after the fact, but I’m happy too that Hannah is branching out and more accepting of our amazing friends.
Wild weekend!
