What is the world coming to?!

I had to stop for gas this morning. Okay. Not my favorite thing to have to do on a chilly day before work, but since I had to stop, why not get a nice cup of hot chocolate and make it a little brighter? So, I passed my freeway entrance and went the extra block to the 7-11 with the good cocoa. I got out of my car and tried to push the button on the pump that said, “pay inside.” No good. Then I noticed the big red sticker on the pump that says to either pay inside BEFORE pumping, or to swipe my card. Fine. I swiped my card, started the gas, and then headed inside. I know that there are unscrupulous people in the world that would SAY they were going to pay inside and then would pump their gas and run. I get that you have to take precautions to not lose the money due to you for a tank of gas. Fine. I’ll run two transactions…and it had to be two now because I was NOT going to give up the cocoa. So, I got my cup and stepped to the register. She ran the transaction and I swiped my card and then she paused and rolled her eyes. “You’re pumping gas outside?” Yes. “You can’t run two card transactions at the same time. You have to finish the gas purchase before I can finish this one. Go ahead and finish the gas and I’ll put your drink in the memory and run your card again when you get back.”
Bah. That’s why I wanted to pay for the gas inside in the first place. If you’re going to make people pay at the pump, can’t you make it easier for them to come get snacks too? Next time, I’m not going to get the cocoa. Next time I’ll start the pump and go sit in my car till it’s done instead of increasing your take by purchasing anything else. Grr. And the cocoa isn’t even the best. What an overly long and disappointing morning.

  1. I got cocoa this morning too! But not at the gas station. I got it at Paradise Bakery along with a chocolate cream cheese pastry and enjoyed both while I was waiting for Katie to show up so we could go to Costco across the parking lot. Oh, it was SO yummy! But then I was cursing my need for cocoa when Lilian grabbed it a little later and spilled it all over my car. Ugh.
